Social Media Image Sizes Guide 2026: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter

Why Image Dimensions Matter
Social media platforms display images at specific aspect ratios and resolutions. When you upload an image that does not match the expected dimensions, the platform will crop it automatically. This often cuts off important parts of your image, such as text, product details, or parts of a person's face.
Instagram Dimensions
Instagram square posts should be 1080 x 1080 pixels. This is the classic Instagram format and works well for most content. Portrait posts perform best at 1080 x 1350 pixels (4:5 ratio), which takes up more screen space in the feed and tends to generate higher engagement.
Facebook, Twitter/X, and YouTube
Facebook cover photos should be 820 x 312 pixels on desktop, but they display differently on mobile (640 x 360), so keep important content centered. Profile pictures are 170 x 170 pixels on desktop. Shared images in the feed work best at 1200 x 630 pixels.
How to Resize Images with ToolPic
Open the Image Crop & Resize tool on ToolPic and upload your image. The tool includes built-in presets for all major social media platforms, so you do not need to remember specific dimensions.
